Last week was tough! My freshmen are still having a hard time getting themselves settled into high school. I’m doing my best to remember that developmentally they’ve still got a lot of maturing to do this year…
This year I’m not really able to structure English 11 as I had the privilege to last year. I only have one section of juniors, so I’m the low man on the totem pole, which is kind of a bummer. Last year I had such amazing success incorporating Donalyn Miller’s reading program into my room!! I’m trying a very modified version, and so far I’m seeing minimal results (which makes sense). Though I will say I did have a junior boy come into class on Monday last week asking to PLEASE have some reading time because he got to a really good part of his book over the weekend! 🙂
Over the weekend Claire, Luke, and I were able to celebrate Dad’s 69th birthday! It was fun to have both of them home, and spend some time with Dad 🙂

I also made a pact with myself to not go into school at all on Saturday– that is the first day since school started that I haven’t been there! Whoa! Saturday I ran errands and cleaned my room and avoided laundry like a pro. Saturday evening I met a dear professor-turned-friend at her son’s hockey game in Sioux Falls. It was lovely to catch up, and nice to do something I wouldn’t normally do.
I did spend almost all of Sunday working away at school, but hopefully that will pay off in spades since we’re heading into the total chaos of Homecoming week! Wish me luck! 😉

Good for you. I think everybody deserves and needs at least one day off. I worked all afternoon and evening on Sunday, but that was it. Hopefully I’ll be ready to go this week.
